About Hoebbles

Related to hobgoblins, Hoebbles (also referred to as Hobbles) are guardians of our natural world. These friendly beings are known to give nature a helping hand by tending to the soil, caring for plants and removing waste from our natural water sources.

Although it is highly unlikely you would ever spot a Hoebble for they are elusive creatures used to disguising themselves, they do leave markers in nature to signal where they have been. They are rumoured to be a blessing on any traveller who encounters them. So it is told, they appear when they sense adventure is afoot and will keep a travelling group company, bringing them luck along the way.

They can travel great distances, are very hardy to the weather and well used to creating beds from old leaves and dandelion fluff. They are wayfinders and use elaborate methods of stone placement to mark their way and discover the best routes.

Some travellers even try to attract Hoebbles to them by leaving offerings of nature, notes, maps and trinkets out for them, for a Hoebble is also a collector and loves nothing more than poring over a good map and pocketing a shiny coin. They are known for sometimes foraging through domestic settings for supplies when they need to. This is what happened to me last year, see My Hoebble Story for the full story!

What Do Hoebbles Look Like?

There are hardly any images of Hoebbles as they are so hard to spot.

  • What do you think a Hoebble looks like?

  • Could you draw one?

  • Imagine how big it is, what it wears and what it might carry with it.

  • Do you think a Hoebble has been to your neighbourhood?
